Well it’s another lonely Valentines night for me this year. Not that the ones where I was in relationships were that much to talk about anyway! Anyhow who needs chocolates, flowers or cutsie cards when you’ve got music? Here’s my top 5 valentines choons in no particular order:
1. ‘Brown Sugar’ D’Angelo © D’Angelo, Ali Shaheed Muhammed 1995 EMI Records.
“Sweet like the honey when it comes to me
Skin is caramel with those cocoa eyes
Even got a big sister by the name of Chocolate Thai…

D’Angelo’s debut single putting a swagger on the average R&B with his chocolate drip vocals. Timeless, sexy and unforgettable. Perfect for the Valentines ‘gettin busy‘ mood.
2. Adore by Prince © Prince 1987 Paisley Park Records.
“The last words you hear from me ‘Be with me darling ’till the end of all time’
I’ll give you my heart, I’ll give you my mind, I’ll give you my body, I’ll give you my time”
A beautiful ballad, the last track on the ‘Sign O The Times‘ album. Prince makes love to his female listeners with his multiple vocal scale on this record laced with delicate horns in the background. There’s a whole bunch of love songs to be picked from Prince’s catalogue but as this is a Top 5 I chose ‘Adore’ as it gives me the lush feeling inside and every woman wants to be adored.
3. ‘Love Poems’ by Bilal © Aaron Comes, Bilal Oliver, Keisha Whatley Warner/Chappell Music, Inc., Sony.

4. ‘Prototype’ © Andre Benjamin 2003 Arista Records

Andre, better known as Andre 3000 half of super rap duo Outkast beautifully showcased his singing abilities on this track with his changing falsetto. Another song choice for new lovers and that whole getting down in the bedroom “…I wanna stank you, smelly much”. Intimacy, the perfect Valentines ingredient.
5. ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You’ © Stevie Wonder 1984 Motown Records
“I just called to say I love you
I just called to say how much I care, I do
I just called to say I love you
And I mean it from the bottom of my heart”
The perfect Valentines song, no innuendoes, just straight ole’ love in a simple melody from a super soul voice. Young and old love this song and whatever the occasion, ‘I Just Called To Say I love You’ will make you feel warm inside.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
