UKTV – The Alternative British Soap Awards 2013 – Worst Actress In A Soap

The best (and worst) of British Soaps were honoured at last weekends British Soap Awards 2013 ceremony. Here, Donnatella’s Space takes a spin on the gongs bash…therefore, the Alternative British Soap Awards will sort the soap suds, from the soap scum on our TV screens.

TOP FIVE WORST ACTRESSES IN A SOAP

SAMIA GHADIE – ( Maria Connor) Coronation Street

Samia mumbles through her script, her performances lack emotion and viewers seem to be more interested in her private life, than her character, Maria. The Donnatella’s Space team feel Maria has passed her sell-by date on Corrie and wouldn’t miss her if she was gone.

KATE FORD – (Tracy Barlow) Coronation Street

Back in the day, Tracy Barlow was the classic Soap Bitch, played brilliantly by Kate. Now, although she is featured in heavy storylines, she comes across as a stroppy, spoilt teenager, not a grown woman with a devious mindset. The character of Tracy is around 40 years old, Kate needs to step up her game or bow out. Tracy doesn’t impress, nor scare us any more.

SAMMY WINWARD – (Katie Macey) Emmerdale

Katie had the live episode wedding, fell into a mineshaft and was told she’d probably never have children. Instead of milking those roles, she was just a prop outshone by the co-stars that she shared scenes with (Declan Macy, Megan Macey and Gennie Sharma). Katie is a rise and fall character that spends more time falling than she does rising. She’s been through so much over the years, there’s nowhere else really for scriptwriters to take her.

KRISSI BOHN – (Jenna Kamara) Coronation Street

The DS team has struggled to connect with Jemma since she and her mother, Mandy entered the cobbles last year. There’s no depth or passion coming from Krissi’s portrayal of the character and she looks as uncomfortable on screen as it is for fans to watch her. Viewers don’t care about her on-screen romance with Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent) and they don’t care about her.

RACHEL BRIGHT – (Poppy Meadow) Eastenders

POPPY

Out of the five nominees, Poppy was the only character that split the team. Half think she’s a good addition to Eastenders, for the light-hearted drama, the rest of us ain’t feeling the love for “Pops”, finding her irritating. In most of her scenes ditzy Poppy has been paired with Fat Boy for the fun factor but we find she’s dumbed down his character, who has provided some rib tickling comedy moments over the years. Producers would’ve faired off better bringing back the character of Poppy’s former girl pal, Jody. Now there was a ditzy chick we cared about and performed the part.

AWARD FOR THE WORST ACTRESS IN A SOAP GOES TO:

TROPHY

SAMIA GHADIE

Poor Samia, when it came to the final vote, the other nominees didn’t even get a look in. Pretty to look at…but she’s got no action for acting.

ALSO RANS:

PAMELA NOMVETE – (Mandy Kamara) Coronation Street – She doesn’t fit in the Coronation Street cast and comes across too mumsy for on-screen boyfriend Lloyd (Craig Charles)

HOLLY WESTON – (Ash Kane) Hollyoaks – Too shouty, Hollyoaks producers got rid of the wrong sister

ABI PHILLIPS – (Libby Savage) Hollyoaks – She may have a pretty face and be a good singer (-cough cough) but cannot act her way out of a paper bag. Would’ve made our Top Five had she not mysteriously disappeared from our screens, so we’re guessing Hollyoaks producers have figured out she can’t act too.

KIERSTON WAREING – (Kirsty Branning) Eastenders – Ragged and Jumpy Kirsty would’ve been more suited to a role of playing a washed out junkie, opposed to playing the wife of suited and booted Max Branning.
